Matthew Megson has dedicated 20 years to handling accommodation and return-to-work processes as an HR Professional, operating within the manufacturing and non-profit sectors for small, medium, and large organizations. These accommodation efforts often revolved around mental illness. Matthew, who has lived with Bipolar Disorder and ADHD for over 27 years, has firsthand experience navigating the request for accommodation as an employee.
His dual perspective, as both an employee and an HR professional involved in the accommodation process, motivated Matthew to concentrate on assisting organizations in enhancing their accommodation processes. Additionally, he is a founding member of the Bipolar Peer Group, an international online support community for individuals living with Bipolar Disorder. Discussions about navigating work with mental illness are a frequent topic, providing Matthew with a deeper understanding of the challenges impacting individuals with mental illnesses in the workplace.
Matthew has also served as an Employment Counselor, aiding individuals with disabilities, including those managing mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia, among others. In 2022, Matthew founded Accommodation Analyzed with the objective of addressing the existing gaps in the accommodation process between employers and individuals living with mental illness. His approach involves training, coaching, and advocacy.
