In this webinar, the speaker will discuss what the gig economy is and present research findings on who makes up the gig economy, their motivations, and their experiences. The speaker will also pose questions as to the role employers play as they hire and retain workers who may engage in gig work.

Learning Outcomes

Identify the players in the gig economy and summarize their roles.
Describe the advantages and disadvantages of the gig economy for the players involved.
Analyze their own beliefs on employer oversight into employees' lives outside their organization.

Speakers

Emily D. Campion, PhD
Emily D. Campion, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship in the Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa. Her research falls under the “future of work” umbrella and includes topics related to machine learning and natural language processing in personnel selection; alternative, gig, and remote work experiences; and workforce diversity and representation. Her work has appeared in Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Leadership Quarterly, and Journal of Vocational Behavior. Emily is currently serving as an editorial board member for Journal of Applied Psychology and Personnel Psychology. Prior to academia, she was a daily reporter in Indiana and an AmeriCorps member in Washington, D. C. She earned her B.A. in Journalism from Indiana University and her Ph.D. in Organization and Human Resources from the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York.

How can I receive a certificate for a course that I have attended?

If you hold a membership with Work Wellness Institute, a certificate of completion will be sent to your email after meeting the requirements of the course or lecture on demand. Please note that a minimum 50-minute attendance is required to be eligible for a certificate of completion.

What is the difference between Corporate membership & Individual membership?

Corporate memberships are Corporate organizations that have partnered with the Work Wellness Institute to have access to membership benefits for all its employees. This membership includes additional perks beyond the individual membership. Voting rights at the Annual General Meeting are 1 vote per organization.
